D5 Chapter 1

I have really enjoyed reading all the comments from everyone. As I read all the responses I was amazed at how similar my thoughts were to those being posted. So, I will keep this short and sweet.
1. How do I teach new behaviors? & 2. How do I teach expectations?
I am combining these as they really go hand in hand.
I always tell everyone that teaching kindergarten is like giving birth. You always forget how painful the first week or so was and how it was so worth it by the end of they year when you wouldn't trade anything for your "kids"! So, as others have said- don't assume they know how or what to do and model, model, model. I love the steps Little Miss Kindergarten outlined!! I am going to post them somewhere in my room!

3. How do I monitor student behavior?
We have a school-wide color coded discipline plan that we are required to follow. I like it because it allows the children to move up as well as down through each of hte colors.

4. What do I do when a student is not exhibiting desired behaviors?
I really try and focus on the positive behaviors that are be exhibited. If that doesn't work, I will give a general reminder of expected behaviors. The next step is talking to the child individually and asking them if they can tell me what they were doing and then what they were supposed to be doing to ensure they understand the expectations. Finally, a color change would occur if the undesired behavior continues.

5. Whose classoom is it?
This is also something I struggle with- I tell my children it is "our" classroom but in reality I am not sure I do a very good job with letting go of everything. Note to self: work on this!

6. Locus of control?
I too am a "treat" giver whether it will be a sticker, skittle, m&m, etc. I may think differently after this book study.

7. Where are supplies stored?
I am a neat freak and have serious problem with containers. My principal says I am the only one she has ever met that has a container for containers. However, everything is labeled and is easily accessed by me but not so much for my children. Another note to self- have supplies available for the kids to get independently- wow my list is getting longer!

I hope this is okay? I am super new to blogging (hence- 4 posts and no comments) and I know I will get better but the impatient side of me wants to jump right in and be as wonderful as so many of you are!!!

Have a wonderful day!!!!

Yay! I Have A Button!!

Wow! After 2+ hours of struggling on my own to create a button- my wonderful son came to my rescue! He helped me with cropping a portion of my border and adding my blog name. I will eventually create a new one when I settle in to the blogging world- but for now I am happy, happy, happy!!!

Yay! I Have A Blog!!!

Well I finally did it! I put aside all my doubts and fears and started my own blog. This blog will be a constant work in progress as I have minimal knowledge about what to do in the world of blogging. I have been stalking admiring so many awesome blogs for the last couple of months!! I am so envious of the creativity so many of you have and I hope to one day be able to give back something to all of you who have so graciously given your time and products.. Since finding many of your blogs I have become so excited about teaching again!!
